Colonial Park West End

Colonial Park West End is set to officially open on Wednesday, September 19.  New this year is the ability to rent the deck closest to Case St.  Inflatables are not allowed.  The rental rates are below:

$50 per hour (minimum of 2 hours)
$75 per hour (minimum of 2 hours)
Non-Resident (must have resident sponsor)

Start of the Halloween Fun Run
Start of the Halloween Kids Fun Run
Registration Open for the West U Halloween Dash 5k and Kids Fun Run

Registration is now open for the Eighth Annual King & Spalding West U Halloween Dash 5k Race and Texas Children's Hospital Kids' Fun Run, which will take place on Saturday, October 27, starting at 8 AM.

The event consists of a 5k, chip-timed race along the flat and fast streets of West U, and non-competitive, 1 mile kids' fun run.  New for 2018, race organizers added a stroller/dog division to the 5k race.

To help get runners ready, Avenu Fitness has put together a downloadable training program, available on the registration site.

"Costumes are optional but are a big part of the "fun" in the fun run," said event organizer Michele Marvin.  "It's a great opportunity for children and adults to show off their creativity, and don't forget to dress up your dog, if he or she is participating."

Judges will award costume contest prized for Best Female, Best Male, Best Couple, and Best Child.  In addition, prizes will be awarded for the top three male and female 5k race finishers in the following age groups: 

  • 14 & Under
  • 15 - 19
  • 20 - 29
  • 30 - 39
  • 40 - 49
  • 50 - 59
  • 60+
There will also be prizes for the overall top male and female finishers in the stroller/dog division. 

Registration for the 5k Race is $25 and $20 for the Kids Fun Run.  Prices increase October 1.  To register, visit  All proceeds benefit the West University Place Parks and Recreation Department. 
West U Festival of the Arts

The City of West University Place will host their Fifth Annual Festival of the Arts on Saturday, October 13 from 10 am to 2 pm.  The festival, which will be held at the West U Community Center, 6104 Auden, features local artists showcasing their skills including handmade sterling and gemstone jewelry, pottery, watercolor and oil paintings, note cards, knitted items, gourmet chocolates, decorative arts, photography, and many more fantastic works of arts and crafts.  Admission is complimentary.

Movies in the Park

Cooler temps and fall colors are right around the corner, which means Movies in the Park is almost here.  The City of West University Place Parks & Recreation Department will host two Friday night family-friendly movies at Colonial Park, 4130 Byron. 

Movies begin shortly after 7 pm, once the sun has gone down.  Admission is complimentary. 

October 12 showing:  Smurfs the Lost Village (Rated PG), a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her friends Brainy, Clumsy, and Hefty on an exciting race through the Forbidden Forest, leading to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history. 

October 19 showing:  Coco (Rated PG), aspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dean to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer.

Full Moon Fest

Join us for a spooky and fun-filled night at Colonial Park, 4130 Byron.  The City of West University Place Parks and Recreation Department will be host its 6th annual Halloween celebration on Friday, October 19, starting at 5:30 pm.  There will be pumpkin decorating, face painting, costume contests, and much more! 

The costume contest will be for different age groups, so make sure the whole family comes in the spookiest attire.  Please note if you wish to participate in the costume contest you must register at the Rec Center or online at by October 15.
