WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE COURT COVID-19 UPDATE
The State of Texas has established new guidelines that require virtual court appearances (Zoom) for nearly all cases. All pending in-person court settings are canceled until further notice.
Missed court dates will be rescheduled. You may receive a reset notice by phone, email or regular mail depending on the contact information available to the Court.

You may be able to resolve your citation without appearing in court or request a virtual court hearing. Please contact the court clerk by email or phone about your options.
Individuals who are over age 65 and individuals with serious underlying health conditions, such as high blood pressure, chronic lung disease, diabetes, obesity, asthma, and those whose immune systems are compromised such as by chemotherapy for cancer or other conditions requiring such therapy are considered to be vulnerable populations should contact the court.
Face coverings, social distancing and symptoms screenings are required if you appear in Court before the Judge. Face coverings and social distancing are also required if you visit the Courthouse during business hours.
You must alert the Court if you have any symptoms of Covid-19 or have been close to another person who has symptoms or has tested positive for Covid-19.

Jurisdiction
The West University Place Municipal Court has jurisdiction over Class C Misdemeanors and City Ordinance Violations punishable by fine only.
Court Costs & Fines
Court costs are assessed if you are found guilty at trial, request a Driving Safety Course, or if you plead guilty or nolo contendere (no contest). Court costs vary by charge.

Pleas
- Guilty: A judicial confession that one is guilty as charged. It is an admission of guilt.
- Nolo Contendere (No Contest): A statement that the defendant does not wish to contest the pending charges. Nolo contendere (no contest) is not an admission or denial of guilt.
- Not Guilty: A denial of guilty to the pending charges
Continuances
Requests for a continuance must be made in person (or by an attorney) on or before the appearance date. You must fill out and sign a reset form at the clerk's office before a continuance will be granted. Only one reset will be granted. No resets will be made by telephone.
Expired Violations
Certain violations may be dismissed at the Municipal Court's discretion and upon payment of a $20 compliance fee. Please contact the Court Clerk's Office for further information.
