Smoke Detectors

Replace Batteries

West University Place Fire Department encourages people to change the battery in their smoke detector when they change their clocks because it can be so easy to forget otherwise. A working smoke detector more than doubles a person's chances of surviving a home fire. More than 90% of homes in the United States have smoke detectors, but 1/3 are estimated to have worn-out or missing batteries.

Placement & Installation Assistance

A Fire Department representative will assist you with the placement and installation of smoke detectors in your home.

Smoke detectors for seniors are available from the Fire Department or residents may provide their own smoke detectors. Please call 713.662.5835 to schedule.
