West Side Drainage Improvement Project
Overview
The City has conducted multiple studies to evaluate drainage improvements that would provide flood relief to the west side of the city. The recommended solution was presented to the City Council by Halff Associates in November 2023 and includes:
- adding a new storm sewer trunk line within the ELPH corridor (Bissonnet Street south to Brays Bayou),
- rerouting existing storm sewer network on the west side of the city for efficiency and directing the storm sewer to the new trunk line, and
- upsizing storm sewers throughout the west side of the City.
The recommended solution is a multi-phase project that will occur over several years. The first phase of the project is to construct the new storm sewer trunk line within the 40-foot-wide ELPH property.
On September 9, 2024, the City Council approved the Design Contract with HDR Engineering. The preliminary design is expected to last 15 months, and the final design and approvals will take approximately 13 months to complete.
