Sidewalk Replacement & Repair
The city is committed to providing safe and accessible sidewalks. Sidewalks play a crucial role in ensuring pedestrian safety and enhancing the overall walkability of our community. To achieve this goal, the city completed a Sidewalk Master Plan, which evaluated all sidewalks in West U and identified locations needing repairs. This ongoing program involves the evaluation, replacement, and repair of sidewalks in various areas. In addition, significant resources have been allocated to address the condition of existing sidewalks. The city has since initiated a multi-year comprehensive sidewalk replacement and repair Capital Improvement Project.
In August 2024, the city was awarded $400,000 grant in partnership with METRO to repair and replace approximately 2,000 square yards of sidewalks throughout West U. In January, the city completed the bid process and received a total of 12 bids. In April, the contract was awarded to the second-lowest bidder, Queen Constructors, LLC. The METRO Sidewalk Project is scheduled to begin on June 30 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Residents will be notified prior to work beginning in their area. We kindly request that residents help make sure that the easement and roadway are clear of any personal items or vehicles during the repair process. This will help ensure the safety of workers and allow them to complete the repairs as efficiently as possible.
October 30 Update: Crews are currently working in area three, identified on the map below.
