An officer was dispatched to the 3900 block of Coleridge in reference to an identity theft that had already occurred. Upon arrival, it was discovered a suspect gained access to the victim’s identity and used their personal information to open a financial account without consent.

An officer observed a vehicle traveling in the 4100 block of Bissonnet St. failing to signal lane change and traveling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted and after further investigation, the license plate showed to be issued to a different vehicle in the state database. The license plate was seized for destruction. The driver and vehicle were released from the scene without incident.
Officers responded to a Virtual Gate Hit regarding a stolen vehicle in the 2600 block of Rice. Upon arrival to the area, officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a high-risk traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle initially pulled over, but once officers exited their vehicle, the driver began to accelerate at a high rate of speed in attempt to elude police. With WUPD right behind the vehicle the entire time, a pursuit was initiated and traveled throughout the city limits of West U. The pursuit ended after approximately five minutes when the suspect lost control of the vehicle in a dead end, crashing through three different yards. Due to the heavy impact of the wreck, the suspect was trapped within the vehicle but was rescued by officers. The suspect is currently in police custody and is charged with Evading and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The suspect, Kurtus Sliger, does have previous criminal history out of state to include one misdemeanor and two felony arrests.
Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon
An officer was performing a traffic stop in the 3200 block of Plumb St. During the traffic stop, it was discovered the suspect was in possession of Drug Paraphernalia and a loaded handgun. The driver (Riah Lanae Smith) was placed in custody without incident.
The driver has no previous criminal history.
An officer was dispatched to the 9500 block of Oak Rd in reference to an officer from an outside agency who had a subject detained with outstanding warrants with the West University Place Police Department. Upon arrival, the officer obtained custody of the subject and was transferred to West University Place Jail for booking.
An officer was dispatched to the 4100 block of Bellaire in reference to fraudulent activity that had already occurred. The victim stated an unknown suspect used a fake identification and attempted to withdraw from an account.
An officer was dispatched to the 4200 block of Bissonnet in reference to fraudulent activity that had already occurred. The victim was notified they had won a prize, and to collect, they needed to withdraw funds from their bank account and then deposit those funds into another account.
