Roadway Panel Replacement

Beginning the week of March 11, the Contractor (TB Concrete Construction) will replace the two remaining roadway panels on Weslayan St. As a reminder, these locations will not be worked on at the same time due to the volume of traffic on Weslayan St. Temporary detours will be in place at each location and should reopen in 3 days to allow the work and new pavement to fully dry with no interruptions. 

Milton St. Roadway Panel Detour - Drivers traveling southbound will detour west on Rice Blvd., then proceed south on Academy St. to University Blvd. From there, head east on University Blvd., to resume south on Weslayan St.

Coleridge St. Roadway Panel Detour – Drivers traveling northbound will detour east on Tennyson St., then proceed north on College St. From there, head west on Coleridge St., to resume north on Weslayan St.

3/6/2024: Due to panel replacement work on Weslayan St., a temporary detour will be in effect today and will reopen by the end of the day tomorrow, March 7. This detour will allow the new pavement to fully dry with no interruption.

Drivers traveling southbound on Weslayan St. from Bissonnet St. will encounter a roadblock at Tennyson St. To navigate around this, please detour west down Tennyson St., then proceed north on Academy St. to Rice St. From there, head east on Rice St. to resume traveling south on Weslayan St.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation during this time.

2/26/2024: Beginning the week of March 4, the Contractor will begin panel replacements on Weslayan St. between Rice Blvd. and Marlowe St. The contractor will work on one set of roadway panels at a time to allow traffic flow. Traffic flaggers will be on-site to navigate travelers on Weslayan St. Drivers should plan their travel routes accordingly and expect delays. 

Crews are completing the first section of roadway panels and will begin making preparations to start work on Weslayan St.

2/9/2024: Starting Monday, February 12, the contractor TB Concrete Construction will begin making preparations to replace deteriorating roadway panels across designated areas around the City. Over the next three years, the City will undertake a series of localized repairs to align and level roadways and improve drainage.

The initial work for 2024 will occur in the following locations: 

  • 4100 Block of Dartmouth
  • 4000 Block of Marquette
  • Corner of West Point & Coleridge 
  • Corner of University & Academy

This project will consist of:

Site Preparation: 

  • Clearing of work areas.
  • Installation of temporary traffic control.

Panel Replacement:

  • Installation of new, reinforced concrete panels. 
  • Ensuring proper alignment and leveling for seamless surface and proper drainage. 

Restoration: 

  • Restoration of irrigation if damaged during removal of old roadway panels.
  • Restoration of sod if disturbed during removal and replacement.
