Milton Water Plant Improvements
Overview
The City’s Milton Street Pump Station was constructed in 1957 and consists of the following:
- 1 Groundwater Well (1,500 Gallons Per Minute (GPM))
- Pump Room 4 Booster Pumps (5,800 GPM)
- 2 Ground Storage Tanks (1.5 Million Gallons (MG) & 400K Gallons)
- City of Houston Surface Water Connection (1,500 GPM)
- Emergency Backup Generator
Based on the results of completed studies, this facility lacks sufficient room to upgrade the pump capacity in the existing pump room without taking the pump station offline and impacting water service delivery to all residents. Additionally, the ground storage tanks are due for replacement prior to 2030 based on their age and condition. The two existing tanks will be replaced with a dual 2,000,000-gallon (2.0 MG) ground storage tank (GST), which will increase open space on the limited site.
Scope of Work
The recommended improvements will improve pressure and flow through the system and ensure Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) compliance as demand increases:
- Demolition of the existing 1.5 MG GST and construction of a new 2.0 MG Dual-Chamber GST at the location of the existing 1.5 MG GST
- New pump building with four booster pumps with the ability to add a fifth pump in the future if needed, in the location of the existing Information Technology Administration Building, west of the existing 1.5 MG GST
- New suction and distribution piping
- New electrical building with motor control center (MCC), SCADA, new electrical service, and new emergency backup generator
- Chemical improvements, a new surface water control station, an access drive, and sitework
- Demolition of the existing 0.4 MG GST and the existing booster pump room upon completion of the proposed improvements
