Overview
This project will consist of constructing a new 1,500 gallon per minute (gpm) groundwater well on the site of former Water Well No. 7 (closed in 2005). The property is within the City of West U at the southeast corner of Bissonnet St. and Weslayan St.
Currently, the city receives between 50 to 55% of its water supply from the City of Houston via surface water connections. If there is ever a disruption to the surface water supply during peak demand (summer months), the City’s two existing water wells would not be able to meet the demand (system pressure and flow) without water restrictions to customers. Previous surface water supply disruptions occurred during non-peak months.
Adding a new groundwater well to the City’s system will provide enough capacity to replace the City of Houston water supply during a service interruption. The new well will allow the City to maintain minimum system pressures at peak demand in the event of water supply disruption from City of Houston.
Scope of Work
This project will include:
- New 1,500-gpm groundwater well
- Approximately 2,800 linear feet of new 12” line to convey the groundwater from the well to the Milton Water Plant.
