Overview
The Friends of West University Parks Fund (Friends) is a nonprofit volunteer-based 501 (c) (3) organization chartered to raise money solely for the construction, maintenance and improvements of parks, including existing and future park sites, and the acquisition of park land, in the City of West University Place. It is composed of citizens who are appointed by City Council in three-year renewable terms. The Friends work closely with the West U Parks and Recreation Department and are supported by an advisory committee of residents. Friends raises money through foundation grants, citizens’ bequests, memorials, special events including the annual Park Lovers’ Ball and Fathers & Flashlights, and various other programs and events including partnerships with local businesses.
